Skaga Originals by Sighsten Herrgård
Sighsten Herrgård was a fashion designer and trendsetter who changed Swedish fashion in many ways during the 1960s. He became one of our most famous designers, and was perhaps best known for creating the unisex all-in-one suit. At the beginning of the 1970s, Sighsten Herrgård took over the task of designing eyewear for Skaga from design icon Sigvard Bernadotte.
Now history is repeating itself, Sighsten Herrgård is the new retro designer in the Skaga Originals series, following hot on the heels of Sigvard Bernadotte.
To honour Sighsten’s memory Scandinavian Eyewear, together with Sighsten Herrgård’s family, will donate 20% of the proceeds from the sale of Skaga Originals by Sighsten Herrgård to Aids research via the charity organisation Noaks Ark.
THE FRAMES
Sighsten Herrgårds unique sense of style avspeglas tydligt i the three unisex frames from the 1970s. CASTOR is the goggles-inspired best-seller from the 1970s for those who want to see and be seen. CAPRICORN is a beautiful style with a generous shape, tipped to be a favourite with the girls. Both these frames have expressive acetate fronts combined with sidepieces in shiny and brushed metal. And finally LEO, are large, funky, acetate frames with lots of attitude. For people who want to wear glasses as an accessory, these frames also come with optically correct lenses.

THE LAUNCH
Tuesday, November 23, saw the launch of Skaga Originals by Sighsten Herrgård. The invited press and other special guests got the chance of a sneak preview of the great unisex frames Castor, Leo and Capricorn, which Sighsten designed for Skaga in the 1970s. The day began with a press breakfast at the beautiful old Berns hotel. Some 60 journalists turned up – which was fantastic, as it was in the middle of fashion week when everyone’s time was precious. It was wonderful that eyewear had a place among all the clothing brands.
In the evening, Berns Salonger had been decorated and there was an eyewear party where guests mingled, tried on glasses and were entertained by Salem al Fakir.
